Rainbow Heat and Power have just finished analysing the results of the latest data collated by The Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC). Every three months they survey the general public to ascertain their attitude to Climate Change and measures adopted to combat it.
Since the survey began the data has proved that householders are concerned about their heating bills, although this figure has dropped by 14% over the last 12 months to 34%. The public are still expressing concern at fuel prices in the future, with 77% saying this was a concern.
78% of adults are in agreement that renewable energy is the most effective resource to combat this, with 61% supporting biomass boilers in particular.
However, our new challenge is from educating the general public in biomass as 26% of people said they had never heard of it!
We are now on a mission, repeat after us…
The term ‘biomass’ is shorthand for ‘biological mass’. It is fuel material derived from any biological (plant or animal) source. Wood fuel, is just one type of biomass from a list of many.
Wood fuel is wood that is burned to generate heat or electricity. It is usually in the form of logs, chips or pellets. Wood fuel has traditionally been used in the form of logs burned in open fireplaces, log-burning stoves or furnaces. However, wood chips and pellets which can be burned in sophisticated, modern stoves and boilers - some of which have thermostatic controls and automated ignition and loading systems - are becomingly popular for their convenience and ease of handling.
