Rainbow Heat and Power Give You a Checklist to Ask Your Installer

18 November 2014

At Rainbow Heat and Power many of our clients have told us many stories of misleading or incorrect information being given out by biomass boiler companies. At Rainbow Heat and Power we make sure only accurate information is passed to our clients and we work hard to maintain an excellent level of customer service.

We have complied a list of the things you should ask before you proceed with you install, even if you aren’t using us (no hard feelings!). We’ve given you some tips to look out for in the responses too.

1. Can I visit a working installation and talk to clients who have gone through the process?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

We would love to show you one of our working installations and as we are local we have a wide range of installations near you to choose from.

2. When should I reach a position where I have paid back the initial installation costs?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

On our website we have calculators for both the Commercial and Domestic RHI schemes. Entering your specific property information and heating requirements will give you an estimated fuel cost saving, expected RHI payments and the period of payback on the initial expenditure.

3. What help and support do you offer with the RHI application and what benefit can this have to my application?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

We have a 100% success rate on RHI applications and can use this knowledge and experience to help you gain accreditation quickly and painlessly. The process can be accelerated due to our understanding of the scheme and the knowledge of what documents to supply in the first instance.

4. How long does accreditation into the RHI scheme take?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

In our experience average accreditation times are 6 to 8 weeks from submission of the application. Obviously, this depends on accurate submission of relevant paperwork. We can help you get this right first time.

5. How quickly will commissioning of my biomass boiler take place?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

The average timeframe between installation and commissioning is approximately 2 weeks.

6. Where can I source my wood fuel from?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

In 2015 the Government are introducing new regulations regarding the wood fuel and the criteria suppliers must meet in order to be used by RHI participants. This is made available through the Biomass Suppliers List, a website that contains the contact information of all approved suppliers registered with DECC. We would recommend starting to use this list to source your wood fuel as soon as possible so you don’t get any nasty surprises when the regulations come into force.

7. What warranty will I receive on the boiler and its parts?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

Both brands of biomass boilers come with between 2 and 5 year guarantees depending on the range of boiler you opt for. Parts are available for at least 10 years.

8. In the unlikely event I do have a problem with my boiler, how long will it take to sort out?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

When your boiler is installed and commissioned, engineers will supply you with the procedure on what to do if you do have a problem including providing the number for an out-of-hours engineer who will envisage to resolve your issue via telephone, with attendance on site if required.

9. Can I receive training on my new boiler?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

When your boiler is commissioned it will be configured to your specification and fuel of choice and tests of all the boiler’s functions will be carried out. After this we give our clients training to ensure they fully understand their new boiler, including day to day running and general maintenance required.

10. When will my boiler need to be serviced?

Rainbow Heat and Power answer:

We offer a servicing, maintenance and ongoing technical support contract for all our biomass boilers and recommend annual services to maintain boiler's performance and efficiency.

Hopefully no matter who you are using once you have run through this checklist you will feel assured the installers you have chosen have everything in order.

The more issues that are dealt with at the planning and design stage the smoother your installation and commissioning will be.
