Q. What is the Renewable Heat Incentive?
A. The commercial Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) was launched in November 2011. Its purpose is to encourage the increased deployment of renewable heat, including biomass boiler heating systems, and to enable the UK to reach its binding 2020 carbon reduction targets. The RHI works by giving the owners of biomass boiler heating systems a financial incentive to move to renewable sources of heating from fossil fuels. RHI payments are based on heat consumption in kWh and are calculated by submitting quarterly meter readings over a 20 year period. A domestic version of the RHI is due to be launched this summer.
Q. How Do I Apply to Get Involved?
A. You can apply for the commercial RHI via OFGEM’s website. You will need to create your own account on the RHI section of the website before making your application. Alternatively, Rainbow Heat and Power can manage the RHI application on your behalf as we have successfully completed a large number of applications to date. Contact us to find out more.
